An Evening with Chris Crutcher: The Truth in Fiction

A fierce defender of the students' right to read and a vigorous critic of censorship, renowned young adult author Chris Crutcher will share thoughts about "not only the right to read but the right to write and the importance of both."
Outstanding Advisor Award
Outstanding Advisor Award
Chapter members, faculty colleagues, or administrators wishing to nominate an NEHS Advisor for the Outstanding Advisor Award should submit necessary documentation by April 26, 2021. The winner of the award receives $500 and a plaque.
Common Reader Survey
Common Reader Survey
The Common Reader Survey for the 2021-2022 school year will be sent to all NEHS Chapter Advisors today with a response deadline of February 23, 2021. Currently, five texts have been suggested; Advisors are asked to rank-order those five; you may also recommend other texts for the NEHS Advisory Council's consideration.

March Flash Fiction Challenge—Twitterature
The next Flash Fiction Writing Challenge will be to create "Twitteratures," stories utilizing no more than 280 characters, including spaces and punctuation. Entries are due by March 1, 2021.
NCTE Poetry Event
NCTE Poetry Event
Join NCTE and the Library of Congress for a webinar on "Teaching Poetry: A Conversation with Rita Dove." Dove will discuss her own approach to writing, share and discuss specific poems, and dedicate ample time for Q&A.
Advisory Council Members
NEHS currently has openings for Midwestern and Far Western Region Advisory Council members whose terms would begin in August of 2021. Active NEHS Advisors from those regions with an interest in serving on this national council are encouraged to contact NEHS Director Dave Wendelin,, for further information.
