What's in a Name
What's in a Name
As new chapters are added to the NEHS roster, we are often intrigued by the special names that chapters select as their unique "label." We hope to highlight some of these backstories throughout the year; please share by sending a short blog to Read on for a recent submission from the Judith Novellino Chapter.
Awards and Recognitions
In recent days, NEHS has finalized several decisions concerning awards and grants. Thirteen NEHS members from Texas, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania won the Intellectual Freedom Challenge for submitting the best essays about censorship-prone texts. Additionally, four early career teachers were granted $400 Classroom Library Grants to help create new opportunities for their students to access quality literature. Finally, Christopher Lockwood, who teaches at Instituto Blaise Pascale in Oaxaca, Mexico, was awarded a $350 Advisor Grant that will be used to establish a professional library for English teachers at the school. Congratulations to all those recognized.
